Recap from TJ Hawke:

Carpenter is Kenny Omega. I believe McGee is Pat Buck. Murder is Mike Rollins. The Johntourage were made up of Brian Cage and Shaun Ricker. The Illuminati were made up of Kenny Dykstra & Kevin Matthews. Faris Gotch was Daivari. Ridgeway was Adam Pearce.  Killshot was Karl Anderson. Walker was Joey Ryan. Punchline was Colt Cabana. Bryce Baxton was Timothy Thatcher. Johnny 99 was Luke Gallows. Dios Dorado was Amazing Red in a mask. Lord of War was MVP. Concrete was Chris Masters. Klaus Kessler was Emil Sitoci. Chris Hyde was Chris Hero. Father Dante was Dr. Luther.

This match is obviously a Battle Royal. The winner is automatically placed in the Grail Tournament (which is apparently going to be the main in-ring competition of the series). The first person eliminated will not be allowed to compete in the tournament.

The match started like every battle royal ever. It was boring. McGee was the first eliminated (courtesy of Ridgeway). McGee being the first eliminated means he can’t enter the tournament. McGee then pulled Ridgeway to floor to eliminate him. Gotch was the third person eliminated (by Kessler). Killshot and Hyde ended up on the apron. Killshot gave Hyde a Brogue Kick, which caused Hyde to fall to the floor (and land on Rick Knox!). Baxton was eliminated next. Carpenter eliminated Concrete. Brick Shithouse, the bodyguard of the Johntourage, came out on the entrance ramp.  The Johntourage then eliminated themselves. Master Murder elbow dropped Hollywood’s smart phone. Punchline then eliminated Murder. The commentators mentioned that Punchline and Murder were feuding. Murder attacked some referees and then eliminated Punchline. Lord of War started whipping people with his belt. Carpenter eliminated Hollywood. Chase Walker eliminated Shooter. Dante powerslammed Dorado out of the ring. Carpenter ended up on the apron. Dante sent him to the floor with a big boot. 99 and Lord of War double teamed Dante. Lord of War kicked him in the nuts. Walker eliminated Kessler.  Dante and Killshot eliminated 99. Final Four are Killshot, Father Dante, Chase of Walker, and Killshot. Walker had a knee injury that he was selling throughout the match. Walker was literally on the ropes, but he then low-bridged Killshot and Dante, which sent them to the floor. Walker thought he won, but Lord of War was hiding. Lord of War then sent Walker to the floor to pick up the victory.

Hollywood and Shooter came out after the match. They claimed to know a secret about Walker. Hollywood called Walker a “fucking faggot.” Walker attacked them, and they ran away. Walker looked like he had something to say, but he then opted to say nothing. Aphrodite then showed up on the entrance ramp as Walker walked to the back.

WRP, much like The Underground, is always going to have the problem of feeling staged. The lack of genuine emotion being generated (or at least the appearance of being genuine) really harms the product. However, I did get a sense that this match had a lot of stories going on. Stories can make wrestling very, very fun. I hope that the stories in WRP make up for a lot of the inherent problems with the show’s format. I would have to assume that Chase Walker is the favorite to win the tournament, and his character got the most to do in this match. The other feuds that were teased (Punchline vs. Murder, Ridgeway vs. Muncie, etc) didn’t intrigue me nearly as much as the Walker storyline did.

Is this match worth watching? If you have any interest in the WRP, then I would say it is definitely worth watching. If nothing else, the match gives you a feel for how the show is going to look and sound (for better or for worse). This video, at the very least, made me intrigued to watch more of the WRP. It didn’t necessarily make me want to fork over my money for the DVDs straight away, but I will continue to check out the preview matches.
